On April 3, 1985, Derek and Nancy Haysom were found dead in their home in Bedford County, Virginia. They had been slashed and stabbed to death, throats slit until they were nearly decapitated. Although investigators hoped to rule out the family, they soon began to zero in on the couple's youngest daughter, Elizabeth, and her boyfriend, Jens Soering, as the perpetrators.
